Anna Nies
Assistant Coach
Entering her fourth year as an assistant coach with the Miami University volleyball program is Anna Nies. Nies was a volunteer assistant coach in 2006 before being promoted to a full-time assistant in 2007 with Miami and has readily embraced the goals and philosophy of the program.
"Through her hard work and commitment Anna, in my opinion, has emerged as one of the finest assistant coaches in the country," said head coach Carolyn Condit, "It has been enjoyable helping her learn all aspects of our program, but more importantly, Anna has brought something special to our recruiting process and our competitive environment. With each year we have moved forward in our recruiting and in our team success. Anna is a special person and I look forward to teaming up with her for a fourth year."
This season Nies will continue as the primary scout, and as the RedHawks' recruiting coordinator. Along with Coach Condit, she has been responsible for the past three recruiting years. Nies is also responsible for training the setters. . She helped coach Andrea Atteberry (2006-09) to 4,621 assists, the second most in school history.
Nies has played a significant role in the increased level of talent over the past four years. Indicative of this is the RedHawks' overall winning percentage of .611, a MAC Tournament Championship and two NCAA berths while she has been on staff.
"Anna is a highly competitive individual and this is seen in the intensity of her work as a recruiter and in the quality and style of her coaching," Condit said. "Her organizational skills and ability to efficiently multi-task, combined with her drive to push our team towards more championships, makes Anna a valuable member of our staff."
Nies was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball at Evansville, playing setter and outside hitter positions. During her undergraduate years, Nies studied abroad in Europe, taking British courses. She earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications and a cognate in marketing and management from Evansville. Nies recently completed her master's degree in exercise and health science from Miami in 2009.
Prior to her time at Evansville, Nies prepped at Milan High School (Ind.), where she was an all-conference and all-state selection.
